Our team is dedicated to helping horses recover from joint or tendon injuries, inflammation, arthritis, and other health issues.
We offer a variety of treatments that can help manage pain, speed up healing, and reduce inflammation and scar tissue. These include a number of therapy techniques including Pro-stride, IRAP and PRP.
The Equine Surgery & Medicine team is here to be your trusted partner in equine care. Let us help your horse return to its prime so it can thrive in all its endeavors.
Equine Therapeutic Services
At Equine Surgery & Medicine, we offer a range of services. You can view all of them below for more information.
-
Alpha-2-Macroglobulin (A2M)
This is a therapy for equine joint disease that slows the progression of osteoarthritis by inhibiting factors that lead to cartilage breakdown. A2M is a molecule that is found naturally in the blood and has been found to help prevent cartilage breakdown.
A2M is the strongest orthobiotic anti-inflammatory available.

IRAP Injections
IRAP (Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein) injections are used to treat equine injuries and encourage the regeneration of injured or degenerative tissue.
The patented IRAP syringe produces autologous conditioned serum (ACS), which contains active quantities of anti-inflammatory and regenerative cytokines. The IRAP syringe contains specially treated glass beads that stimulate the white blood cells to produce anti-inflammatory and regenerative cytokines.
The blood is incubated overnight and then centrifuged to collect serum. The serum produced is then re-injected back into the patient, be it in a joint, a chronically sore navicular area, or an inflamed tendon sheath, working to decrease the inflammatory process and thus helping to improve comfort and slow the degenerative process.
-
Polyacrylamide Gel
We use polyacrylamide gels like Arthramid and Noltrex at Equine Surgery & Medicine. These gels can provide long-term results for horses with advanced osteoarthritis.
These gels are injected into the joint to provide visco-supplementation (lubrication/cushioning) and to restore healthy joint lubrication.
Because of their protective capacity and long duration of functionality, the use of these gels is rapidly eclipsing the use of steroids.
-
Pro-Stride
Pro-Stride (Autologous conditioned plasma) is made from your horse’s own blood. It is processed in a 2-step system that produces a super concentrated solution of anti-inflammatory and healing factors.
This regenerative therapy offers a safe, convenient, drug-free alternative to traditional steroid joint injections to treat arthritis and joint pain in your equine athlete.
Pro-Stride is a great option for:
- Young performance horses with inflamed or sore joints. Pro-Stride will help protect the joints from future arthritis without the use of steroids.
- Older horses that may be at higher risk due to metabolic diseases (such as Cushing’s or Equine Metabolic Syndrome). Pro-Stride is made from the horse’s own blood, so there are no systemic effects as can be seen with steroids.
- Actively competing horses, as there is no withdrawal time for USEF and FEI competition.
-
PRP Injections
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injections are used to treat equine injuries and encourage the natural regeneration of injured or degenerative tissue without subjecting the patient to significant risk.
We have learned that when activated in the body, platelets release healing proteins called growth factors. There are many growth factors with varying responsibilities, but cumulatively, they accelerate tissue and wound healing. When injected into inflamed or injured tissue, we are able to deliver a powerful cocktail of growth factors that can dramatically enhance tissue recovery.
-
RenoVo
RenoVo is an amniotic tissue allograft comprised of cytokines, growth factors and proteins that are naturally found in amniotic tissues.
Injuries that have been seen to improve with RenoVo injection include deep digital flexor tendonitis and chronic suspensory branch desmitis.
